How to Map Fields?
Quick guide to mapping source data fields to WooCommerce fields
Overview
Field mapping is the process of connecting columns from your source data file to WooCommerce fields. PrimeLink provides a visual drag-and-drop interface to make this process easy and intuitive.
This guide will walk you through the basics of field mapping in PrimeLink.
Accessing Field Mapping
Step 5: Field Mapping Studio
Field mapping is done in Step 5 of the import wizard:
- Start a new import or edit an existing one
- Complete Steps 1-4 (Welcome, Data Source, Strategy, Filters)
- Navigate to Step 5: Field Mapping Studio
- You'll see source fields on the left and WooCommerce fields on the right
Basic Mapping Process
Drag and Drop
The easiest way to map fields:
- Find the source field you want to map (left panel)
- Drag it to the corresponding WooCommerce field (right panel)
- Drop it on the target field
- The mapping is created automatically
Click to Map
Alternative method:
- Click on a source field
- Click on the target WooCommerce field
- The mapping is created
Remove Mapping
To remove a mapping:
- Click the "X" or remove button on the mapped field
- Or drag the mapped field away
Field Organization
WooCommerce Fields
WooCommerce fields are organized into sections:
- Title & Content: Product name, description, short description
- Product Data: Price, SKU, stock, weight, dimensions
- Images: Featured image, gallery images
- Taxonomies: Categories, tags, attributes
- Advanced: Custom fields, linked products, etc.
Source Fields
Source fields are displayed as detected from your file:
- Column headers from CSV/XLSX files
- XML node names from XML files
- All available fields are shown
Common Mapping Scenarios
Exact Match
When source and target field names match:
- PrimeLink may suggest automatic mappings
- Review and confirm suggested mappings
- Adjust if needed
Different Names
When field names differ:
- Manually map source field to target field
- Example: Map "Product Name" to "Title"
- Example: Map "Price" to "Regular Price"
Multiple Source Fields
When you need multiple source fields:
- Some WooCommerce fields support multiple mappings
- Example: Gallery Images can have multiple source fields
- Add additional mapping slots as needed
Required Fields
Identifying Required Fields
Required fields are typically marked:
- With an asterisk (*) or "Required" label
- In red or highlighted
- Must be mapped for import to work
Common Required Fields
- Products: Title, Price (for non-free products), SKU
- Orders: Customer Email, Order Items, Total
- Customers: Email
- Categories: Category Name
Tips and Best Practices
- Map Required Fields First: Start with required fields
- Use Preview: Preview mapped data before importing
- Save Templates: Save mappings as templates for reuse
- Test First: Use Dry Run mode to test mappings
- Check Data Format: Ensure source data format matches target field requirements
- Map All Important Fields: Don't skip important fields
