Import Tags
Import product tags into WooCommerce for better product organization
Overview
Tag imports allow you to migrate product tags from another store, import tag lists from external systems, or bulk create tags for your products.
Unlike categories, tags are non-hierarchical and can be freely assigned to products for flexible organization and filtering.

Matching Tags
Matching Criteria
When updating existing tags, PrimeLink needs to match them. Available options:
- Tag Name: Match by tag name (recommended)
- Tag ID: Match by WooCommerce tag ID
- Slug: Match by tag slug
- Custom Field: Match by custom field value
Best Practices
- Use Tag Name for matching (most intuitive)
- Tag names are case-insensitive for matching
- Use Tag ID if importing from another WooCommerce store
Tags vs Categories
Key Differences
| Feature | Categories | Tags |
|---|---|---|
| Hierarchy | Yes (parent-child) | No (flat structure) |
| Organization | Structured | Flexible |
| Use Case | Main organization | Cross-category labels |
Best Practices
- Use descriptive names: Tag names should be clear and descriptive
- Test with sample data: Run a test import with a few tags first
- Keep tags simple: Tags are meant to be flexible and simple
- Backup first: Always backup your store before large imports
- Verify slugs: Check tag slugs are URL-friendly
- Use consistently: Use consistent naming conventions
Common Issues and Solutions
Tags Not Created
- Check required fields are mapped (Tag Name is required)
- Verify tag name format is correct
- Check import logs for specific errors
- Ensure tag names are not empty
Duplicate Tags
- Tag names are case-insensitive - duplicates are merged
- Use "Update Only" mode to update existing tags
- Verify matching criteria is correct
