Import product reviews and ratings into WooCommerce

Overview

Review imports allow you to migrate product reviews from another store, import reviews from external systems, or bulk import customer feedback.

PrimeLink imports all review data including ratings, comments, author information, dates, and review status.

Review Fields Overview

Product Information

  • Product ID: WooCommerce product ID
  • Product SKU: Product SKU (alternative to ID)
  • Product Title: Product title (alternative to ID)

Review Content

  • Rating: Review rating (1-5 stars)
  • Title: Review title/headline
  • Content: Review comment/text
  • Status: Approved, Pending, Spam, Trash

Author Information

  • Author Name: Reviewer name
  • Author Email: Reviewer email address
  • Author URL: Reviewer website (optional)
  • User ID: WordPress user ID (if reviewer is a registered user)

Additional Information

  • Date Created: Review date
  • Verified Purchase: Mark as verified purchase
  • Helpful Votes: Number of helpful votes
  • Parent ID: Parent review ID (for review replies)

Import Process

Step 1: Welcome

Start the review import wizard from PrimeLink → Imports → New Import → Reviews

Step 2: Select Data Source

Choose where your review data is coming from

Step 3: Import Strategy

Choose how to handle existing reviews:

  • Create & Update: Create new reviews and update existing ones
  • Create Only: Only create new reviews, skip existing
  • Update Only: Only update existing reviews, skip new ones

Step 4: Filters & Preview

Filter your review data and preview results

Step 5: Field Mapping

Map source fields to WooCommerce review fields:

  • Map product reference (ID, SKU, or Title)
  • Map review content (rating, title, content)
  • Map author information
  • Map dates and additional information

Step 6: Options & Scheduling

Configure import options and scheduling

Step 7: Review

Review your import configuration

Step 8: Run Import

Start the import and monitor progress

Linking Reviews to Products

Product Reference

Reviews must be linked to a product. You can reference the product by:

  • Product ID: WooCommerce product ID (most reliable)
  • Product SKU: Product SKU
  • Product Title: Product title

Best Practices

  • Use Product ID for most reliable linking
  • Use Product SKU if importing from another WooCommerce store
  • Ensure product exists before importing reviews
  • Verify product reference is correct

Ratings

Rating Values

Ratings are typically on a 1-5 scale:

  • 1: Very poor
  • 2: Poor
  • 3: Average
  • 4: Good
  • 5: Excellent

Rating Format

Ratings can be imported as:

  • Numeric values (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
  • Text values ("1", "2", "3", "4", "5")
  • Star ratings ("★", "★★", "★★★", "★★★★", "★★★★★")

Matching Reviews

Matching Criteria

When updating existing reviews, PrimeLink needs to match them. Available options:

  • Review ID: Match by WooCommerce review ID
  • Product + Author + Date: Match by product, author, and date combination
  • Custom Field: Match by custom field value

Best Practices

  • Use Review ID for most reliable matching
  • Use Product + Author + Date if Review ID is not available
  • Use Review ID if importing from another WooCommerce store

Review Status

Status Options

  • Approved: Review is published and visible
  • Pending: Review is pending moderation
  • Spam: Review is marked as spam
  • Trash: Review is deleted/trashed

Default Status

If status is not specified:

  • Reviews are typically imported as "Pending" for moderation
  • You can approve them manually or in bulk
  • Or set default status in import options

Best Practices

  • Verify products exist: Ensure all products referenced in reviews exist
  • Test with sample data: Run a test import with a few reviews first
  • Check ratings: Verify ratings are in valid range (1-5)
  • Moderate reviews: Import as "Pending" and review before approving
  • Backup first: Always backup your store before large imports
  • Verify dates: Check review dates are reasonable
  • Check author emails: Verify email addresses are valid

Common Issues and Solutions

Reviews Not Created

  • Check required fields are mapped (Product reference, Rating, Content)
  • Verify product exists in your store
  • Check import logs for specific errors
  • Ensure product reference is correct

Reviews Not Linked to Products

  • Verify product ID, SKU, or title is correct
  • Check product exists in your store
  • Ensure product matching criteria is correct

Invalid Ratings

  • Verify ratings are in valid range (1-5)
  • Check rating format is correct (numeric)
  • Ensure rating field is properly mapped
